Reimagined Surf Rock, Retro Rock, and Rockabilly for festivals, parties, weddings, corporate, and special events guitar! That often dreamy-sounding,
spring reverb-laden, retro guitar-driven sub-genre.
Surf guitar is an instrumental style of music that hails from the early 60’s surf culture of southern California,
and was popularized by the likes of Dick Dale,
The Chantays and The Ventures. Even though this vintage style of rock can sound frozen in time, it’s very much alive today and moving forward with a whole new generation
of players giving it their own sound. The Mermen,
Los Straightjackets, Shadowy Men on a Shadowy Planet and of course our local champions, The Real Gone.

The Real Gone cooks up surf guitar and cooks it up well. This powerhouse trio has been playing the Chicago area since 2007. They have played some of the more musically-heavy area venues such as Martyrs’, Fitzgerald’s,
House of Blues, City Winery and countless other events and festivals, including Tinley Park’s own 2017 Block Party.
Their line-up features Bret Figura on drums, Phil Lazzari
on guitar and Joe Rauen on electric and upright bass.

I must confess a penchant for instrumental music and trios, so for me to give these guys a nod was a no-brainer.
Their playing is energetic, tight and fun. So if you find yourself being somewhat skittish about checking out a largely-instrumental band, be not afraid!
Surf guitar is deeply woven through our American musical fabric and is very likable. Despite being a trio,
their sound is very complete, totally entertaining
and it really packs a wallop.

Think of this band as a well-constructed, three-legged stool. Always rock-steady and it will NEVER wobble!
— Mr. Music,

A revival of the West Coast sounds from the ’50s and ’60s is happening right now in the Midwest! The Real Gone travels back in time to rock the classic music of The Ventures, The Sonics, and Dick Dale, then resurfaces with surfed out versions of modern hits from The Pixies, Muse, and more. The Real Gone has been bringing authentic surf rock and rockabilly to Chicagoland since 2007. The genre plays well in all situations. The Real Gone’s take on The Ventures’ “Fugitive” and reimangined rendition of Depeche Mode's "Personal Jesus" were played on air on 93 WXRT. They’ve opened for Southern Culture on the Skids at City Winery and other national acts at Naperville’s Ribfest, Chicago’s Taste of Randolph Street and Reggie’s Rock Club. The band has been well suited and hired for corporate and private parties, burlesque and variety shows, car shows, and charitable events. Let their sonic waves wash over your event! You’ll wish you had a surfboard.

The musicians of The Real Gone are seasoned players with experience in a myriad of genres. Phil Lazzari and Bret Figura have been band mates for years. They have opened up for such artists as Clint Black, Drive-By-Truckers, Melvin Sparks, Fareed Haque, Caitlin Carey (Whiskeytown) & Thad Cocrell, Devil in a Woodpile, Anna Fermin’s Trigger Gospel, Reckless Kelly and more. Joe Rauen is a graduate of the prestigious Berklee College of Music. He has performed extensively across the United States and his music has appeared on NPR’s Snap Judgement.
